A few weeks ago we were first introduced to the book ‘Convergence Culture’ by Jenkins, and given the task to translate the concepts and theories into a product. A task open for interpretation, with many possibilities.

Our brainstorming session, which traditionally includes lots of coffee, was not as fruitful as expected and we struggled to find inspiration and ideas on how to translate the complex theory of the book into a single product. We decided to take a break, clear our heads and take a walk. The new school year just started, and we discussed the courses, teachers and the literature we would eventually have to get our heads around. “So many books to study…  If only there was an easy way to get familiar with all the theories and concepts. Something more accessible, and less imposing than a 768 page book.” And this is when we got it. We will create an online learning platform, on which we present the complex theory of the Convergence Culture book in an accessible and interactive way.

As the project manager of this group, I have been working closely with the two lovely ladies in my team who made the creation of Embracing Convergence Culture possible. Even though the process was very time consuming and required careful planning, the finalized product was well worth all the effort we put into it. Alma, the editor, managed to translate the theories from the book into short, easy to comprehend summaries which capture the key concepts. Sophie, the designer, perfectly translated the informational purpose of our product into a sleek, clean and intuitive design which is not distracting from the information presented.

So, overall I can say that I am very satisfied with how the product turned out and I truly believe it serves its educational purpose. How do you feel about Embracing Convergence Culture?
